Description et habitat

  • Belle plante bisannuelle atteignant 1 m à 2,5 m de hauteur, à tige cylindrique rougeâtre, creuse, à grandes feuilles bi- ou tripennées
  • Fleurs groupées en vastes ombelles composées, vert jaunâtre, pouvant atteindre 40 cm de diamètre

Histoire et tradition

  • On l’a apppelée Herbe du Saint Esprit car elle aurait sauvé Milan de la peste en 1510
  • Son nom viendrait du fait qu’elle fleurit à la Saint Michel Archange
  • Cazin rapporte le cas d’Annibal Camoux, mort en 1759 à l’âge de 121 ans et 3 mois, qui mâchait continuellement de la racine d’angélique [1]
  • Une autre espèce, Angelica dahurica , est vasorelaxante et antihypertensive [2]
  • L'angélique chinoise Angelica sinensis possède un tropisme gynécologique

  • Stimule les sécrétions gastriques et pancréatiques, cholagogue (saveur aromatique amère) [7]
  • Apéritive et stomachique, carminative, anti-ulcéreux
  • Spasmolytique de l’intestin et de la trachée de cobaye, anti-asthmatique [8]
  • Hépatoprotecteur [9]
  • Anxiolytique (impératorine) [10], [11], [12], surtout la racine [13]
  • Activité antidépressive par effet IMAO, inhibition de la mono-amine oxydase (angélicine, bergaptène) [14]
  • Améliore la mémoire (chez la souris) [15], améliore les symptômes comportementaux et psychologiques de certaines démences comme la démence à corps de Lewy (acide férulique) [16]
  • Neuroprotecteur, améliore les troubles cognitifs induits par le lipopolysaccharide et la neuroinflammation (impératorine) [17]
  • Inhibition de la cholinestérase [18]
  • Serait active sur l'hypercorticisme des phases de stress prolongé
  • Antimicrobienne, expectorante, antiseptique
  • Diurétique, emménagogue
  • Inhibition de l’agrégation plaquettaire (extrait de racines)
  • Activité antagoniste calcique plus importante que celle du vérapamil par l'archangélicine [19], [20]
  • Radio-protectrice, protège la souris des dommages causés par les rayonnements gamma [21], [22], [23], [24]
  • Cytotoxique sur cancer du pancréas (furanocoumarines) [25]

  • Syndrome de l'intestin irritable (en mélange dans Iberogast®) [30]

  • Ulcères gastriques, gastrites
  • Fibromyalgie [31]
  • Insomnies d’origine nerveuse (huile essentielle)
  • Voie externe : rubéfiant dans les névralgies et les rhumatismes
