Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée de 30 à 80 cm de haut, rhizome globuleux couvert d'un épiderme brun jaune, chair est jaune vif
  • Du rhizome partent jusqu'à 10 racines tubérisées en fuseau ou en massue de 5 à 30 cm de long, l’ensemble des racines a été comparé à un trousseau de clés d’où le nom de « clés chinoises »
  • Forêts épaisses d’Asie à une altitude d'environ 1000 m, entre autres en Inde, Indonésie, Malaisie et Sri Lanka
  • Ne pas confondre avec le petit galanga Alpinia officinarum

Histoire et tradition

  • La racine est utilisée en cuisine asiatique
  • Utilisée en médecine traditionnelle d’Asie (Malaisie, Thaïlande, Indonésie, Inde, Chine) pour traiter les rhumatismes, les douleurs musculaires, les inflammations, la fièvre, les maux de gorge, les troubles gastro-intestinaux, l'ulcère gastro-duodénal, les suites d’accouchement, les mycoses et verminoses [1]
