Description et habitat

  • Arbre fruitier des régions tropicales, à feuilles caduques, dioïque, de croissance lente, qui atteint 8 à 10 mètres de hauteur
  • Son fruit comestible, sphérique, au goût amer, est nommé « groseille indienne »
    • La production de fruit est de 15 à 20 kg par arbre adulte

Histoire et tradition

  • Connu depuis l'Antiquité, par la médecine "unani", gréco-romaine et arabe
  • Arbre sacré de la culture indienne, utilisé en médecine ayurvédique, surnommé "arbre de longue vie"

  • Potentialités anticancéreuses vis-à-vis de six lignées de cellules cancéreuses humaines, A549 (poumon), HepG2 (foie), HeLa (col utérin), MDA-MB-231 (sein), SK-OV3 (ovaire), SW620 (colorectal), augmente l’activité de la caspase-3/7 et la caspase-8 (mais pas la caspase-9), et inducteur d’apoptose [11], inhibe la transcription des oncogènes viraux responsables du développement et de la progression du cancer du col utérin induit par le HPV [12]
  • Inhibiteur de la transcriptase inverse du virus HIV [13]
  • Néphroprotecteur, réduit la dysfonction rénale liée à l’âge induite par le stress oxydatif, anti-inflammatoire par action sur le iNOS et la COX-2 [14], protecteur rénal [15]
