Description et habitat

  • Arbuste atteignant 5 à 10 m de haut, feuilles entières, elliptiques, à pétiole ailé
  • Fleurs d’un blanc très pur d’odeur suave agréable
  • Europe du Sud et régions à climat subtropical (la drogue est importée en général d’Espagne, du Mexique ou du Paraguay)

Histoire et tradition

  • Le genre Citrus (Rutaceae) est originaire de l’archipel malais il y a plus de 20 millions d’années
  • Le bigaradier et l’oranger doux semblent deux espèces très différentes
    • Les fleurs donnent l'essence de Néroli (du nom de Marie-Anne de La Trémoille, princesse des Ursins et de Nérola, qui la popularisa et dont la légende dit qu'elle l’utilisa durant la peste au XVII° siècle en Italie)
    • Les feuilles et jeunes rameaux à fruits donnent l'essence de petit grain

    • Calmant du système nerveux, sédatif, anxiolytique [9], [10], [11],
    • Anti-inflammatoire sur phénomènes névralgiques (arthrite cervico-dorsale, névrite, rhumatismes articulaires algiques)
    • Somnifère léger
    • Spasmolytique (spasmes nerveux, thoraciques, gynécologiques)
    • Spasmolytique vasculaire (insuffisance coronarienne légère)
    • Améliore la circulation artérielle
    • Antipléthorique
    • Anti-infectieux léger (affections des voies respiratoires)
    • Potentialités dans les infections à Staphylococcus aureus résistants (MRSA) [12]
    • Antiparasitaire, larvicide sur Anopheles stephensi [13]

    • États neurotoniques et troubles mineurs du sommeil
    • Syndrome des jambes sans repos : le massage des pieds avec des huiles essentielles de Lavandula vera et de Citrus aurantium améliore la qualité du sommeil et le syndrome des jambes sans repos [26]
    • Le massage aromatique des jambes avec les HE de Lavandula vera et de Citrus aurantium améliore significativement la qualité de vie des patients hémodialysés [27]
