  • Plante herbacée de forte odeur aromatique, espèce ou sous-espèce d'origan originaire de Grèce, croissant dans des zones plus méridionales
  • On décrit trois chémotypes d'Origanum heracleoticum : type marjolaine, type thym, type origan [1]

Propriétés de l'huile essentielle

  • Anti-infectieuse puissante globale et à large spectre d’action : bactéricide, fongicide, viricide, parasiticide
    • Inhibe la croissance des bactéries Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes [3]
  • Tonique et stimulante générale
  • Huile essentielle antioxydante du fait de la richesse en composés phénoliques, thymol et carvacrol [4]
  • Thymol et carvacrol sont bactériostatiques et bactéricides vis-à-vis d’Escherichia coli surtout en solution éthanolique ou stabilisante telle que Agar ou carraghénates
  • Protection vis-à-vis de l'infection par Aeromonas hydrophila dans l'alimentation de certaines espèces de poissons [5]
