  • Plante arbustive du Sud-Est asiatique, feuilles simples et opposées, vert foncé brillant, fruit jaune, rouge lorsqu'il est mûr, comportant 6 à 8 sillons, qui ressemble à une toute petite citrouille (5 cm de diamètre environ)

  • Agent régulateur de l’obésité [6]
    • L’acide hydroxycitrique agirait sur le métabolisme lipidique, inhiberait l’absorption des glucides et des lipides, et la transformation des sucres en graisse, induirait une perte pondérale [7], avec une bonne sécurité d'emploi [8]
  • Diminue la synthèse des acides gras, augmente l’oxydation des lipides
  • Antioxydant et anti-inflammatoire [9]
  • Protection vis-à-vis du syndrome métabolique, protection rénale vis-à-vis du stress oxydatif [10]
  • Antidiabétique, protection vis-à-vis de la toxicité hépatique induite par l'hyperglycémie chez le rat, en diminuant la réponse inflammatoire [11]
  • Hypocholestérolémiant [12]
  • Diminuerait l’appétit
  • Immunomodulant [13]
  • L'acide gambogique présent dans divers Garcinia possède un effet synergique avec le docetaxel sur l'apoptose, dans les cancers gastriques et du colon [14]

  • Le Garcinia cambogia est interdit dans les préparations amaigrissantes réalisées en pharmacie (communiqué de presse ANSM du 10 mai 2012). La décision publiée au journal officiel (JO) du 10 juin 2012, étend l’interdiction aux préparations homéopathiques, à la prescription et à l’importation
  • La gomme-résine du guttier (Garcinia cambogia) figure à l'arrêté royal Belge du 19 mars 2012 (modifiant l'arrêté royal du 29 août 1997) relatif aux denrées alimentaires contenant des plantes.
  • Au Compendium de l'EFSA, l'ensemble de la plante (Garcinia gummi-gutta) est concernée pour avoir un impact négatif sur la santé du fait de la présence d'HCA ou acide hydroxy-citrique

Effets indésirables éventuels et précautions d'emploi

  • Bonne sécurité d'emploi jusqu'à la dose de 3000 mg/jour d'extrait [19]
  • Toxicité testiculaire à haute dose [20]
  • Toxicité hépatique (risque d'hépatite fulminante à haute dose) [21]
  • Des rhabdomyolyses ont été décrites suite à la consommation de produits américains à base de Garcinia cambogia dont la composition exacte n’était pas connue
