  • Antioxydant [2]
  • Antidépresseur, anxiolytique et hypnotique [3]
  • Améliore les symptômes de la maladie d'Alzheimer, inhibe l’agrégation et la déposition de la protéine béta-amyloïde, améliore les symptômes de la maladie d’Alzheimer débutante [4], indiqué dans les démences séniles et les désordres neuro-dégénératifs accompagnés d’une diminution de la mémoire[5]
  • Agent de chimioprévention des cancers, anticarcinogène, anti-mutagène, immunomodulateur (diméthyl-crocétine surtout) [6]
  • Anticarcinogène par induction d'apoptose [7] (voir bibliographie complémentaire à safran)
  • Hypolipidémiant, inhibition de la lipase pancréatique, [8]

Effet thérapeutique

Effets indésirables

  • Très bien tolérée [9]
  • Aucun événement indésirable majeur n'a été signalé au cours d’un essai comparant 20 mg de crocine à un placebo [10]
  • Une dose quotidienne de 100 mg pendant 6 semaines de crocine par voie orale est bien tolérée [11]
