Description et habitat

  • Plante aromatique des régions tropicales qui croît en touffes herbacées de grandes tailles pouvant atteindre 3 mètres, fait partie de la grande famille des citronnelles
  • Du rhizome partent de grandes feuilles linéaires lancéolées très aromatiques dès qu'on les froisse. L'inflorescence en panicule devient rouge à maturité et contient plus d'essence.
  • Fréquemment cultivée dans les pays tropicaux

Histoire et tradition

  • Son huile essentielle est utilisée en cosmétologie, en aromathérapie et aromachologie, et la plante en cuisine
  • Sa fragrance spécifique est due au géraniol

  • Antibactérienne [10], bactéricide vis-à-vis d' Escherichia coli [11], antibactérien vis-à-vis de Cutibacterium acnes (ou Propionibacterium acnes) [12], interactions avec le microbiote cutané [13]
