Description et habitat

  • Plante grimpante, ligneuse et aromatique, à fleurs roses et grappes de baies rouges (8 m de hauteur)
  • Cultivée au Nord-Est de la Chine
  • Le fruit est récolté en automne

Histoire et tradition

  • Une des plantes toniques les plus utilisées en Chine pour stimuler l’activité sexuelle
  • En chinois, il signifie “cinq plantes parfumées” (rappelle la saveur des cinq énergies élémentaires)
  • Les baies étaient utilisées pour conserver l’apparence de la jeunesse

Propriétés de la plante

  • Adaptogène, facilite la résistance au stress, identique au ginseng
  • Tonique, stimule le système nerveux, améliore la lucidité et stimule les réflexes, augmente la mémoire [1], neuroprotecteur [2]
    • Une administration unique d’un mélange de racines d’Eleutherococcus senticosus, de baies de Schisandra chinensis et de racines de Rhodiola rosea augmente la performance mentale et la capacité de travail physique, elle produit, dans les 30 min suivant l’administration, un effet stimulant qui persiste pendant au moins 4 à 6 h [3], sans effet indésirable
  • Antimicrobien, antidiabétique, améliore la fonction pancréatique, stimule la sécrétion d'insuline, potentialités anti-obésité en limitant l'accumulation de lipides et la différenciation des préadipocytes (alpha-cubébénol) [4], protège du photovieillissement cutané, indiqué dans l'arthrose, la sarcopénie, la sénescence, le dysfonctionnement mitochondrial, améliore l'endurance physique et les fonctions cognitivo-comportementales, potentiel anti-âge général [5]
  • Antidépresseur, diminue l’irritabilité
  • Hépatoprotecteur (lignanes) en particulier dans les hépatites (inhibe la peroxydation des lipides) [6], [7], protège de l'hépatotoxicité induite par la galactosamine [8]
  • Protège de la néphrotoxicité induite par la cyclosporine [9]
  • Cardioprotecteur, inducteur des protéines de stress HSP (heat shock proteins) [10]
  • L'alpha-iso-cubébénol améliore le taux de survie dans la septicémie induite par la ligature et la ponction caecale, inverse la progression du choc septique en déclenchant plusieurs voies de signalisation protectrices, améliore la destruction microbienne, maintient la fonction des organes et la survie des leucocytes [11]
  • Antioxydant, stimule l’activité de la superoxyde dismutase (SOD) et de la catalase
  • Anti-hypertenseur [12], [13]
  • Anti-inflammatoire du poumon [14], la schisandrine B protège contre l'inflammation pulmonaire induite par la fumée de cigarette en activant Nrf2 et en inhibant la voie de signalisation NF-κB (diminution des médiateurs inflammatoires TNF-α, IL-1β et IL-6 dans le liquide de lavage bronchoalvéolaire) [15]
  • Un des polysaccharides (Schisandra chinensis polysaccharide-0-1 ou SCP-0-1) est actif contre le carcinome hépato-cellulaire HepG2 [16]
  • L'huile essentielle extraite des semences de Schisandra est antitumorale, elle induit l’apoptose des cellules leucémiques humaines U937 [17], [18]
  • Inducteur d'apoptose dans les hépatocarcinomes (α-iso-cubebenol) [19]
  • Gynécologie : stimule l’utérus, augmente les contractions
  • Stimulant sexuel, masculin et féminin, augmente les sécrétions sexuelles
