  • Plante tropicale vivace, originaire de l’Asie du Sud-Est
  • La plante fraîche est sans odeur, les différentes molécules odorantes (patchoulol, sesquiterpènes) apparaissent après une phase de fermentation

Histoire et tradition

  • Plante utilisée par la médecine ayurvédique et la médecine traditionnelle chinoise [1]
  • Le patchouli est arrivé en Europe au XVIIIe siècle
  • Ses propriétés insecticides étaient bien connues des marchands, qui glissaient des feuilles de patchouli dans leurs chargements de soieries et de tissus précieux
