Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée vivace, hermaphrodite, très polymorphe (30-80 cm).
  • Souche rameuse, sous-ligneuse.
  • Tige flexueuse, dressée, feuillée, à rameaux plus ou moins étalés.
  • Feuilles simples, entières, souvent incurvées en faux, pourvues d’une nervure marginale, les inférieures pétiolées, à limbe oblong plus ou moins étroit, les caulinaires sessiles, à limbe linéaire-lancéolé.
  • Inflorescence : ombelle d’ombellules à 4-10 rayons subégaux ; involucre composé de 1 à 4 bractées linéaires, très inégales ; involucelle à 5-6 bractées lancéolées ou linéaires, très aiguës, plus courtes que les pédicelles ; calice à limbe nul ; corolle jaune.
  • Fruit : diakène long de 3 à 6 mm, ovoïde-oblong, glabre, à côtes saillantes

Histoire et tradition

  • Son nom provient du grec Bous, le bœuf et pleurons, la côte, allusion à la raideur des feuilles
  • Méconnue en phytothérapie occidentale, citée parfois comme efficace dans les hernies et des sciatiques
  • Importante en médecine orientale
