Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée bisannuelle, de 30 à 90 cm, à tiges dressées, à feuilles trifoliées. Les fleurs, très petites, papilionacées, jaunes, à odeur de foin coupé, sont groupées par 30 à 70 en grappes de 4 à 10 cm. Le fruit est une petite gousse ovoïde

Histoire et tradition

  • En cas de contamination fongique, le mélilot peut produire des phytoalexines comme la médicarpine (ptérocarpane) qui avec l’acide O-hydroxycinnamique, peut donner naissance au dicoumarol, premier modèle des anticoagulants de synthèse, à l’origine d’intoxications dans les troupeaux, substances absentes si les conditions de séchage ont été respectées

  • Diurétique et antispasmodique
  • Veinotonique, puissant anti-œdémateux [5], il augmente le débit veineuxet le débit lymphatique, diminue la perméabilité capillaire
    • Diminue le lymphœdème du bras après mastectomie et curage axillaire [6]
  • Hypotenseur [7]
  • Légèrement astringente et anti-inflammatoire [8]
  • La coumarine, qui n'est pas anticoagulante, stimule le système réticulo-endothélial et le pouvoir de protéolyse des macrophages
  • Accélère la cicatrisation (expérimentations animales)

  • Varices et thrombophlébites, insuffisance veino-lymphatique, fragilité capillaire (ecchymoses, pétéchies)
  • Signes fonctionnels de la crise hémorroïdaire
  • Troubles digestifs mineurs et troubles mineurs du sommeil
  • Bouffées de chaleur de la ménopause (comme dans la pathogénésie homéopathique)
  • Usage externe : contusions, hématomes, entorses
