Description et habitat

  • Arbre de 3 à 5 m de haut, cultivé sous les Tropiques du Sud-Est asiatique (Chine, Vietnam)
  • Feuilles persistantes coriaces, allongées-aigues
  • Fleurs solitaires odoriférantes à une vingtaine de pétales blanc-jaunâtres à insertion spiralée comme les étamines, à 8 carpelles le plus souvent, développant à maturité des syncarpes (carpelles soudés) en forme d’étoile

Histoire et tradition

  • Le nom chinois signifie “fenouil à huit cornes”, “Illicium “veut dire attirance, séduction (odeur de la fleur)
  • Son fruit fut introduit en Europe en 1588, le nom badiane provient de l’arabe “badiyan” qui signifie “anis
  • Différente de la badiane du Japon ou Illicium anisatum L. = Illicium religiosum Sieb et Zucc., arbre sacré que l’on trouve près des temples bouddhistes, toxique
    • Existence inconnue à l’état sauvage

  • Aromatisant, stomachique, expectorant
  • Antispasmodique digestif et des voies respiratoires
  • Prévenion de l'hyperlipémie et de l'athérosclérose [1]
  • Effet œstrogénique par l’anéthole mais l’huile essentielle totale est plus active
  • Activité anticholinestérasique prometteuse (et butyrylcholinestérasique) par le trans-anéthole [2]
    • Le terme “Z” (cis) vient de l'allemand zusammen qui signifie ensemble, “E” vient de l'allemand entgegen qui signifie opposé (trans)
    • Le trans-anéthole pourrait antagoniser la thuyone
