Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée vivace de petite taille, des pelouses, à tige carrée, dressée, feuilles opposées ovales, la paire supérieurant entourant l'épi floral, fleurs bleu-violet (rarement blanches) en forme de calice à deux lèvres, la lèvre supérieure à trois dents peu prononcées et la lèvre inférieure fendue jusqu'au milieu en deux lobes

Histoire et tradition

  • Utilisée en Médecine Traditionnelle Chinoise, notamment pour accompagner les traitements anticancéreux
  • En Médecine ayurvédique, utilisée pour les maux de gorge, la fièvre, la guérison des blessures [1]

  • Anti-inflammatoire, antispasmodique, antipyrétique
  • Antiseptique, astringent, hémostatique, cicatrisant (voie externe)
  • Antiviral (Herpes simplex virus) [6]
  • Antibactérien [7]
  • Immunomodulant (polysaccharides : PV-P1, PV-P2, PV-P3) [8], [9], potentialise les effets antimicrobiens [10], [11], l'extrait aqueux stimule l'activation des macrophages via l'activation de NF-kappaB et de la MAP kinase [12]
  • Antioxydant (acide rosmarinique), activité de piégeage des radicaux libres, inhibition de l'oxydation des LDL, protection des mitochondries et des hépatocytes (rat), réduit la production de leucotriène B4 (impliqué dans l'inflammation) [13] et anti-cancer [14]
  • Antitumoral (triterpénoïdes, flavonoïdes, phénylpropanoïdes) [15], réduit la croissance et la prolifération des cellules tumorales, induit l'apoptose, potentialise les médicaments anticancéreux [16], effet immunomodulant dans l'adénocarcinome pulmonaire [17], effet antiprolifératif et pro-apoptotique sur les cellules tumorales du carcinome humain différencié de la thyroïde [18]
  • Neuroprotecteur, potentialités dans la démence, la maladie d'Alzheimer (inhibition de la cholinestérase), atténue les troubles de la mémoire induits par la scopolamine chez le rat [19]
  • Protection rénale, diminue les lésions de glomérulonéphrite et de fibrose glomérulaire pouvant conduire à une néphropathie diabétique, améliore la fonction rénale des diabétiques [20]
  • Hypotenseur, hypoglycémiant, hypolipidémiant [21]
  • Effet anti-estrogène, potentialités dans le traitement de l’endométriose [22]
