Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée des lieux humides, de grande taille, à grandes feuilles divisées en folioles dentées et inégales, la terminale étant plus grande. Les fleurs sont blanches, odorantes, très nombreuses, disposées en grappes composées, d'odeur caractéristique de salicylate de méthyle. Le fruit est sec.
  • La reine des prés est très commune en France et dans toute l'Europe sauf le littoral méditerranéen, en Asie occidentale et septentrionale, en Amérique du Nord.
  • Plante mellifère

Histoire et tradition

  • Elle était utilisée autrefois comme vulnéraire, sudorifique, astringente, diurétique (Cazin), tonique, préconisée contre l'hydropisie et les troubles rhumatismaux

  • Peu usitée, mais le rendement en huile essentielle au début de la floraison est environ une fois et demie plus élevé qu'en fin de floraison [27]

Formulations usuelles

  • Infusion de sommités fleuries : trois cuillerées à soupe (une bonne poignée) pour un litre d'eau bouillante, infuser 1/4 heure (ne pas faire bouillir). A boire dans la journée, espacer après amélioration

Effets indésirables éventuels et précautions d'emploi

  • Très peu d'effets indésirables ont été recensés [29]
  • Gastralgies parfois
  • Le salicylate de méthyle est régulièrement à l'origine d'intoxications dont la symptomatologie est celle de l'intoxication salicylée : 1 ml de salicylate de méthyle est équivalent à 1,4 g d'acide acétylsalicylique (aspirine) et les quantités ingérées sont parfois supérieures à 10 ml [2]
  • Prudence en cas de co-administration d'antiagrégants et d'anticoagulants
    • Interactions potentielles avec la warfarine [30]
  • Contre-indication avec l'héparine et dérivés
  • Éviter en cas d'allergie à l'aspirine
