Description et habitat

  • Plante herbacée annuelle de 20 à 50 cm, à tiges dressées très rameuses et feuilles abondamment divisées en lanières fines, à forte odeur aromatique
  • Inflorescences en capitules, à réceptacle conique creux
  • Fleurs ligulées blanches, tubuleuses jaunes au centre
  • Akènes jaunâtres côtelés, légèrement arqués

Histoire et tradition

  • Croît dans les lieux incultes
  • Abondante en Europe centrale et en Afrique du Nord
  • Dénommée “Camomille allemande” en raison de l’intérêt porté par les populations des steppes d’Europe centrale où elle est abondante
  • Son nom provient du grec khamaimêlon (pomme rampante) à cause de l'odeur agréable de pomme verte de ses feuilles et matrix (matrice) ou matricaria (femme) car utilisée lors des troubles de la menstruation et lors de l'accouchement

  • Par voie orale, infusion de capitules :
    • Adolescents, adultes et personnes âgées : 1.5-4 g en 3-4 prises quotidiennes (troubles gastro-intestinaux mineurs)
    • Enfants 6-12 ans : 1.5-3.0 g, 2 à 4 fois par jour
    • Enfants 2-6 ans : 1.0-1.5 g, 2 à 4 fois par jour
    • Enfants 6 mois-2 ans : 0,5-1 g, 2 à 4 fois par jour [1]

Propriétés de la plante

  • Anti-inflammatoire par inhibition de la COX-2 [6], antioxydant [7], antimutagène, activité synergique avec l’indométacine et le diclofénac, dont elle augmente l’activité anti-inflammatoire et diminue les effets secondaires gastriques [8]
  • Inhibition de la synthèse et de la libération des médiateurs de l’inflammation (prostaglandines, leucotriènes, bradykinine, histamine, sérotonine)
  • Hypocholestérolémiant [9] et anti-phlogistique (chamazulène, matricine et bisabolol), anti-prurigineux puissant
  • Spasmolytique par inhibition de la cAMP-phosphodiestérase [10] (le bisabolol et le dicycloéther polyinique sont plus actifs que la papavérine)
  • Les flavonoïdes sont anti-inflammatoires et antispasmodiques (apigénine, lutéoline)
  • Antalgique [11], [12], [13], [14], [15]
  • Carminative, stomachique, cholérétique
  • Anti-ulcéreux [16], gastro-protecteur vis-à-vis des ulcères [17], [18], protection vis-à-vis des lésions gastriques induites par l'éthanol [19] et l'indométacine [20] (alpha-bisabolol), diminue la production de liquide gastrique acide induite par les AINS, et inhibe la libération de gastrine sérique [21], inhibe la production d'uréase par Helicobacter pylori (macération huileuse de capitules) [22]

  • Bactéricide, fongicide (spiro-éthers, alpha-bisabolol et coumarines)

  • Antivirale vis-à-vis d' Herpes virus, même sur des virus résistants à l'acyclovir [44]
  • Antiparasitaire, anti-anisakiase (zoonose causée par l'ingestion de larves de nematodes dans des produits alimentaires à base de fruits de mer crus tels que sushi, sashimi, etc) qui provoque douleurs abdominales, nausées, vomissements, diarrhées [45]
  • Les azulènes stimulent la régénération hépatique [46]

Indications

Indications de la plante entière (phytothérapie)

  • Inflammation et ulcère gastrique, gastrites, spasmes intestinaux, diminue les symptômes de la dyspepsie [47]
  • Syndrome métabolique, obésité, par modulation des voies de signalisation impliquant la protéine kinase activée par l'AMP, les facteurs de transcription NF-κB, Nrf2 et PPARγ (apigénine, lutéoline, huile essentielle) [48]
  • Colopathies spasmodiques, entérites, crampes, ballonnements
  • Toux sèches irritantes, asthme, un mélange contenant Matricaria chamomilla, Althaea officinalis, Malva sylvestris, Hyssopus officinalis, Adiantum capillus-veneris, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Ziziphus jujuba diminue les réactivations consécutives aux rhinites avec toux et réveils nocturnes chez les enfants asthmatiques [49]
  • Troubles de la menstruation, dysménorrhées [50], un essai clinique randomisé en triple aveugle montre que des capsules de 250 mg d’extrait de matricaire prises toutes les 8 heures pendant les règles, deux cycles consécutifs, peuvent diminuer les hémorragies menstruelles, effet comparable à celui de l'acide méfénamique (Ponstyl®) [51], tout comme 2 tasses d’infusion de camomille par jour, pendant 5 jours à partir du début des règles, diminuent les douleurs menstruelles, le stress et l'anxiété [52]
  • Amélioration du syndrome prémenstruel en raison de ses effets anti-inflammatoires (chamazulène, alpha-bisabolol), antispasmodiques (apigénine, quercétine, lutéoline, méthoxycoumarine, matricine, phytoestrogènes), anxiolytiques (glycine, flavonoïdes) [53]
  • Troubles du sommeil, anxiété, dépressions nerveuses légères

  • Affinité pour les récepteurs benzodiazépiniques centraux (l'apigénine est un ligand compétitif des récepteurs benzodiazépiniques)
  • Le chamazulène est anti-inflammatoire, inhibe la formation de leucotriène B4, bloque la peroxydation de l'acide arachidonique, anti-oxydant, antibactérien ; il est aussi anti-allergique
  • Détoxification des toxines bactériennes
  • En applications locales, le bisabolol augmente le passage trans-cutané de drogues à absorption faible, il est anti-inflammatoire comme l’apigénine et la lutéoline qui ont la même activité que l’indométhacine
  • L’apigénine bloque une étape de la chaîne de fabrication des oestrogènes, aussi bien dans des cellules cancéreuses en culture que dans d’autres types de cellules où la synthèse des oestrogènes est habituellement très active
  • Les dérivés polyacétyléniques sont des caractères chimiotaxonomiques de la famille des Asteraceae
