  • Espèce cosmopolite, très polymorphe sur le plan botanique, commune dans toute l’Europe, Afrique du Nord et Amérique du Nord, Asie, terrains incultes et rocailleux, jusqu’à 2500 m d’altitude
  • Tiges sillonnées de 40 à 90 cm
  • Feuilles sessiles très découpées et velues
  • Fleurs blanches ou roses groupées en capitules eux-mêmes regroupés en corymbes
  • Fruit : akènes comprimés blanchâtres

Histoire et tradition

  • Aurait servi à soigner la plaie du talon d’Achille pendant la guerre de Troie, d'où son nom
  • Usage très semblable à celui de la matricaire

Indications de la plante entière (phytothérapie)

  • Troubles gastro-intestinaux, spasmes intestinaux, ballonnements, crampes, lenteur à la digestion
  • Dysménorrhées [35], effet comparable aux antalgiques utilisés couramment (acide méfénamique)) [36], [37], efficacité de longue durée comparativement à la matricaire [38]
  • Colopathie fonctionnelle en raison de son effet antispasmodique sur les spasmes des muscles lisses (surtout)
  • Contractures musculaires (des muscles striés)
  • Diminue les récidives et le score EDSS chez les patients atteints de sclérose en plaques [41]
  • Cicatrisant externe : brûlures, plaies, ulcères, hémorroïdes, leucorrhées, parodontopathies, suites d'épisiotomies [42]
  • Épistaxis : placer localement dans la narine une feuille comprimée et roulée en boule

Indications spécifiques de l'huile essentielle (aromathérapie)

  • Coupures, blessures, acné, crevasses, rides, gerçures, eczéma
  • Épistaxis par voie locale : une pommade formulée avec 1 % d’Achillea millefolium a montré une efficacité supérieure à celé du placebo pour diminuer la sévérité et la durée des saignements chez les patients présentant une épistaxis idiopathique récurrente, et ce sans effets secondaires [43]
  • Dysménorrhées, prostatite
  • Crampes musculaires
  • Contusions, hématomes, entorses
  • Névrites, névralgies
  • Mucites induites par la chimiothérapie

Mode d'action connu ou présumé

  • Les lactones sesquiterpéniques (qui étaient appelées “amères aromatiques”) possèdent des effets anti-inflammatoires
  • L’apigénine (flavonoïde) bloque une étape de la chaîne de fabrication des oestrogènes, aussi bien dans des cellules cancéreuses en culture que dans d’autres types de cellules où la synthèse des oestrogènes est habituellement très active

    • Surveillance en cas de coadministration de médicaments hormonaux chez la femme (l’apigénine peut interférer avec le métabolisme des œstrogènes)

    • HE interdite aux femmes enceintes, allaitantes, aux enfants et aux sujets à tendance épileptique
